Guide To Making Duvet Covers

Have you been playing around with the idea of making yourself a duvet cover? Well this article has been written just for you. Just take a note pad and a pen and read through this article right to the end.

The question on how to make duvet covers can be answered in a variety of ways. I will choose one of many alternatives that you can employ as soon as you are done reading. Let me say this before you get all worked up – it is quite easy to create a duvet cover just as long as you follow all the laid our procedures. With this you don’t have to go aroud looking for discount duvet cover sets or branded ones line discounted pottery barn duvet set

First thing first, you need to select the fabric you intend to use. You will also have to take some measurements that is you will have to measure the length and the width. You need to know the size of the bed you will be using it on. For example, Are you going to be using it on a single bed, queen, twin or double?

Now here is my advice. Two things, look for a washable material and (2) make sure it does offer some decorative appeal. I suggest you go for a lightweight fabric that will feel comfortable. While you are making those choices do not forget to think about the climatic conditions of your area.

Now you need to choose two lengths of fabric that should be about 54 inches wide. You can even make it a bit wider. This will be used on the front of the duvet cover. Make sure that each of the panels is equal to the length measurement discussed above.

-Find home decorator fabrics. make these about fifty four inches wider. Chances are your duvet is wider. if you do have a wider duvet you can just purchase another panel of material.

-Now you must think about patterns and prints that you like. depending on the type of prints you will go for some adjustments may be necessary. for instance, you may have to elongate your panels.

-Prewash and iron the fabric.

-Now simply fold the front panel in half lengthwise.

-You may need to use an iron to make some sharp creases at the folds. It will then be easy to continue once you’ve done that.

-you will have to do this to the panels at the back too.

-Draw a line that goes right down along the length of the panel where the crease is. You will need a fabric marking pen and a yard stick for this task.

-Cut out each line to make six panels. That is, three shall be used for the back and 3 shall be used on the front part of the cover.

-Now the next step on your project of making a duvet cover is to simply pin one panel that is narrow to one side of the visible side or front rather that is still uncut. Make sure that is it is pinned such that all fabric edges are lined up & make sure that the sides are also lined up quite as well.

What I have just said will take you miles ahead in your duvet cover making. Yes there might be a few more steps to go but then it is all up to you how you want to wrap it all up and make one that will suite just your taste and style.
